Commonly attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach, Bist du bei mir is actually the only extant aria from Gottfried Stötzl’s opera Diomedes, which we know of thanks to Bach’s notebooks of transcriptions and original works, all unattributed, presented to his wife, Anna Magdalena. This new typeset edition includes the most common piano transcription for ease of performance with a piano or other keyboard instrument, transposed down a semitone.
